Water Relay – 2012

February 22, 2012 in General

Members of the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit (EFRU) participated in a Fire Fighting simulation and water relay exercise organized by the Civil Protection Department (CPD) in conjunction with the Enemalta Emergency Response team on Wednesday the 22nd of February 2012.

This was held at the Enemalta power station in Delimara and simulated one of the oil reservoirs catching fire. The exercise, which was directed by the CPD Operations Manager Mr. Anthony Pisani involved the deployment of a number of Fire Fighting Appliances, each relaying water to one another to transport the necessary fire fighting media to the site of the simulated fire.

Long lines of hoses were laid and fire appliances placed at strategic intervals relaying water to the ground monitors that were placed at a safe distance near the tank supposedly on fire. Various water pressure tests were conducted by the CPD personnel whilst testing the communication and teamwork skills amongst the different teams on site.

A command for the ‘wrap up’ of the operation was given by Mr. Pisani at about 12.15pm after being satisfied with the performance of the team present.

EFRU members would like to take this opportunity to thank the CPD Director Mr. Patrick Murgo for the many opportunities of training he is giving the unit. At present, ten members of EFRU are undergoing an in- depth fire Fighting course under the instruction of Mr. Anthony Pisani. Same members were requested to attend to the above mentioned simulation
