Missing Person – May 2012

May 4, 2012 in U.S.A.R.

On Thursday 3rd of May, the Emergency Fire and Rescue Unit (EFRU) K9 Section was asked to assist in the search for Philip Farrugia, who was reported missing on Saturday 28th April.

The EFRU K9 team deployed for the search consisted of six members: Three handlers and their Labradors, and three safety officers.  Two of the dogs are trained in searching for live victims and the other is a Cadaver search dog.

Since limited information was available regarding the possible whereabouts of Mr Farrugia, the team was assigned the Buskett area, which was one of the areas being searched.  The team split into three groups so as to cover as much area in as short a time as possible, with each group consisting of a safety officer, a handler and their dog.

However, despite an intensive two and a half hour search, the dogs were unable to locate the missing man and the search was called off.

Philip Farrugia is still missing and was last seen wearing black trousers, a blue polo shirt with white sleeves and black shoes.  Mr Farrugia is 50 years old, thin and 5ft 8in tall.  Any information that might help locate Mr Farrugia should be conveyed to the Police on 112, where all calls will be treated in the strictest confidence.
