USAR Simulation at Hal-Ferh – May 2012

May 17, 2012 in U.S.A.R.

Seven volunteers from the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit (EFRU) took part in a full scale Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) Simulation organised by the Civil Protection Department (CPD) on Wednesday 15th May 2012 held at the derelict ‘Ħal Ferħ’ village in ‘Għajn Tuffieħa’.

Having two casualties being trapped in a colapsed building, the EFRU team had to penetrate through thick steel sheets, stone and brick walls to reach their goal and rescue both casualties safely and in a timely manner using heavy rescue machinery available belonging to the unit and the CPD alike.

CPD Section Commander ‘Natalino Bezzina’ was assigned with our team to supervise the techniques chosen by the EFRU volunteers and lending a helping hand as well as sharing his expert advise where necessary.

Minister Karm Mifsud Bonnici together with a healthy number of journalists attended to this simulation entitled ‘USAR Exercise Hal-Ferh’.
