This past week resulted to be quite a busy week for the Emergency Fire and Rescue Unit (E.F.R.U) team. Following the fire at the Foster Clarks, it was now time to assist 2 events held by the Ministry for Rural resources Hon. G Pullicino.
- The Summer Fest party in Paceville to inaugurate the newly refurbished roads.
- The opening on the new Water Park in Bugibba.
The latter was quite a busy duty for E.F.R.U members, who assisted a number of first aid accidents. Such accidents ranged from slight abrasions to concussion. As soon as the members arrived on site, they started assessing the area and made the initial judgment before the kicking-off of the activity. This is a very important assessment as it gives quite a clear idea of what accidents to expect and what to prepare for, however, accidents are also highly unpredictable, so the first aiders had to be ready for everything. Although, as expected, most of the accidents were directly linked to the water park itself, anyone attending the activity was a potential casualty due to the heat and crowds.
The main casualties during this duty were children, who were busy running around in the water park. Most of the accidents were a result of either collisions between two children or falls. Most of these casualties were treated on site for their slight abrasions in the face or knees; however, there were two more serious cases which needed professional medical care, thus, transported to hospital with the units ambulance.
