Riggers Course – March 2014

April 17, 2014 in General

Members from the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit (EFRU) have attended, and successfully completed, an intensive three day ‘Rope Rescue Riggers’ course held in March 2014 at the headquarters of the Malta Red Cross.

The mentioned course, delivered by Mr. John Gera and accredited by the ‘Italian Civil Protection’, was aimed at certifying a number of experienced members from both organisations, as well as members from the Greek organization, ’ Team EP.OM.E.A. Egaleo’, in a number of safe techniques of rope rigging during emergency situations.

This ‘tailor made’ course was delivered purposely to guide the volunteer organisations on how to maximize the use of their limited resources, with minimum equipment and working swiftly to reach the injured person as quickly as possible. Such techniques come to very good use during rescue scenarios in locations inaccessible to rescue vehicles.
The Greek organization present for the ‘Rope Riggers Course’ has already been working closely with the EFRU in the past. A mutual agreement will be signed in May, along with other countries (namely Italy, Portugal and Cyprus) after a 24 hour International Rescue Exercise organized in Badolato, within the region of Reggio Calabria, Italy.
