September 25, 2015 in General

The Emergency Fire and Rescue Unit (EFRU) recently provided First Aid and Fire support at Creamfields 2015 – a dance music festival that was held at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali.

The Fire team – along with the EFRU fire truck and the Unit’s mess van – was stationed backstage. The team was fully equipped with all necessary fire-fighting and basic rescue equipment, and their main responsibility was to ensure that no accidental fires erupted during the various pyrotechnics shows that were incorporated into the event. The Fire team were kept busy during the shows, immediately extinguishing several fires that were started due to burning debris.

The First Aid team were also kept on their toes, and were able to assist several casualties suffering from a variety of ailments, including dehydration, sprained ankles, wounds and excessive alcohol consumption. The EFRU ambulance was also available for transportation to hospital as needed.

The support provided by both EFRU teams was done with great personal satisfaction by each member, as the support provided is purely voluntary, yet given with enthusiasm and with the true intent of helping others whenever possible. All the volunteers participating, both during the event as well as in the preparations and planning, were instrumental for the smooth management of each situation as it arose.
