April 27, 2010 in General

For the third consecutive year the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit will be organizing the ‘EFRU Cycles For Charity’ Event, which will be in aid of The Malta Hospice Movement, on the 7thand8thMay2010 in Sicily.

Whilst logistic preparations are at their peak, the cyclists are busy training to be able to finish thegrueling300km route mapped out by the EFRU senior management with the help of Mr. Audrick Plum, an experienced cyclist who has traveled to Sicily on bike several times.

As part of their training routine and to monitor each of the cyclists, all participants were asked to complete a 120km route on Sunday the 25th of April, together, in preparation for the event. Leaving the unit’s temporary premises in San Gwann at 8.00am and closely followed by a back-up vehicle, carrying water and first aid supplies, the cyclists cycled all through the afternoon tackling hill after hill and village after village until they reached their target at 2.00pm.

EFRU’s management were very happy with this achievement and would like to thank all those taking part for their time and efforts. All those wishing to be part of this challenge and helping the Malta Hospice Movement in achieving their targets can do so by donating via sms on the numbers indicated.
