27 km Walk in Aid of Puttinu

March 31, 2013 in General

A lot of people are by now aware of Puttinu Cares – a Children’s Cancer Support Group. A lot of activities are organised to raise funds for this cause. On Friday 29th March (Good Friday) a 27km walk was organised, starting at 2am in Mellieha and finishing around 5 hours later in Senglea.

The Emergency Fire and Rescue Unit participated in the walk with a team of 10 members. These same members had been training regularly for the walk to be ready for both the long distance and also for the uphill parts of the route. It is always important to prepare well for such activities. In fact just after finishing the walk, EFRU members provided first aid to a young lady who felt unwell, probably due to over exertion.

This is not the only activity where EFRU contributes to Puttinu Cares. In fact, the EFRU is the Official First Aid Team for Puttinu Cares, providing these services completely for free. The next planned activity is the annual football marathon, between 3rd and 5th May, where EFRU will be providing continuous first aid and fire safety cover.
