2014 Recruitment Drive

October 8, 2014 in General

2014 has marked the 8th anniversary of the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit (EFRU). On looking back, one cannot but notice the high success rate the Unit has gained over a relatively short time-frame. Perhaps one of the most gratifying moments was the foundation of EVOLSAR, a first of its kind within the European Union and a dream which the Unit had worked for since its inception back in 2006. Apart from EVOLSAR, one cannot fail to mention the number of rescues the EFRU was involved in and the difference it has made in the lives of those who were saved. Proof of such has been given through the first hand experience of ‘victims to-be’ in such circumstances. Interviews with such individuals can be found on our website’s archive page as well as in the previous issues of the Unit’s e-newsletters.

But that is not all… The Unit strives hard to spread safety awareness in schools, youth organisations and more. It is involved in many public gatherings, races and competitions offering First Aid and Fire Protection, it assists charitable organisations during their fund raising activities and organizes First Aid courses for its volunteers and the public in general. The EFRU has also been involved in various Humanitarian Aid collections and a number of deployments in foreign countries. The Unit has an impeccable track record of commitment whenever requested upon by local authorities be it in Fireworks factory explosions, major commercial fires and search missions for missing people.

In the same way that a great strategy alone will never win a battle, the backbone of this success story is not the EFRU in itself but its volunteers that form such a wonderful family; people with a passion for what they do, individuals who care about others and work hard to make a difference in people’s lives. It is only thanks to such caring and committed beings that the EFRU manages to function and develop programs the way it does.

This year, the EFRU will be holding another recruitment drive with the aim of strengthening its workforce on Saturday 25th October 2014 at the Unit’s headquarters in Shipwright Wharf Paola.
