#EFRU #volunteers formed part of an #EVOLSAR deployment to participate in the UK’s biggest annual disaster simulation exercise – #SIMEX 19 held from the 14th to the 16th of May. SIMEX is an annual, operational (live controlled) field exercise designed to establish a learning environment for rescuers to exercise disaster event response plans, policies and procedures. It is run by the University of Portsmouth and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, in close partnership with 40+ key organisations.

The exercise comprises a mix of live, simulation and command and control events in order to provide a neutral platform to test both national and international emergency response mechanisms. EVOLSAR participated in this SIMEX edition with a multinational team. Volunteer rescuers of Serve On & SARAID of the UK, the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit (EFRU) of Malta, SARTEAM and the Peniche Bombeiros of Portugal, the Central Budapest Volunteer Civil Protection (OPVE) of Hungary, Edelweiss Protezione Civile of Italy, and the Unidad Canina Rescate y Salvamento (UCRS) of Spain, formed part of this.

The participation of EVOLSAR in this edition of the The Simex Series was a fruitful one and EVOLSAR looks forward to pursue its participation on an annual basis.

EVOLSAR thanks all of its participant volunteer rescuers and for its British counterparts that facilitated this involvement.
